Don’t be a fool; keep your skin feeling cool!

Now is the time to up the ante with looking after your skin during the warm summer months. Disclaimer: did you know it only takes 5-10 minutes for the sun’s UV radiation to kick in and become harmful to our skin, causing potential sun damage, premature ageing, and skin cancers? Crazy, right?

But fear not, I’m going to share with you my top tips for looking after your skin and chasing your glow, this summer.

1. Swap your cream moisturisers for a gel moisturiser. Gel moisturisers have a lighter, watery consistency to cream moisturisers meaning, they provide equal (if not more) hydration without the greasy, oily finish we do not need! Due to their water-based formula, they are suitable for all skin types so, if you have dry skin, it helps to rehydrate your skin and lock in the moisture, but it also works well with oily skin types due to the absence of oil in its formulas.

2. Invest in a mini fridge… but not as you know it. Pop your skincare products in the fridge and thank me later! Not only does this hack help to cool down your overall body temperature, and leave your skin feeling incredible, it also has a few extra benefits you may not have realised.

Gel-based products, eye creams, and serums, have been proven to absorb deeper into our skin when stored at a cooler temperature (not exceeding past 2-4 degrees though) whilst activating the product’s natural ingredients and, increased the ability to reduce inflammation and redness.

3. SPF – aka the mother of all anti-ageing products. SPF essentially blocks our skin from the sun’s radiation and emits the two types of radiation; UVA and UVB, which contribute to the signs of skin aging. It is important that we use SPF on our face and body for the full 365 days of the year, period, but especially when the rays are in full swing.

Tip* cosmetic brands have come on leaps and bounds in the past ten years so save yourself time and energy and invest in a 2-in-1 tinted moisturiser with added SPF but, don’t go for anything less than 30!

4. Hydration for the nation – I touched upon this in a previous article, but this needs another spotlight moment.

During the warm summer months, our bodies try to cool down through the natural process of sweating which can cause dehydration when not replenished. Dehydrated skin can cause our overall tone and complexion to look uneven and fine lines to appear more prominent. In short, it is not the one when aiming for glowing-Queen-like skin.

Tip* Aim to drink between 2-3L of water daily but your body will tell you if it needs more. Squeeze half a lemon into your water to promote hydration, improve your skin quality and digestion and, it will make your water seem a little more luxe!
