Definition: ‘A general direction in which something is changing or developing in the beauty industry’.
In our time, we have seen an array of beauty trends from big brows (inspo Queen, Cara Delevingne) and the extremes of contouring, (thanks Kimmy K) to the return of hair accessories, the ‘no makeup, makeup’ look and glass skin – we really have seen it all.
Now, 2021 is no different; Vogue predicted the trends for this year and let’s just say… my prayers have been answered!
It seems the precedent for this year is dewy skin, skinmalism (loosely meaning ‘slow beauty’: letting our natural skin texture like acne or freckles, shine through) and, microbiome health (referring to an ecosystem of living microorganisms on our skin; some skincare brands are already combining probiotics and prebiotics to effectively balance the microbiome, how very 2021).
In a nutshell, 2020 was the year of the global pandemic which, (much to my dismay) took our beauty treatment luxuries away from us in the blink of an eye meaning we had to adapt and find our own DIY ‘at home’ solutions to fill the void.
Personally for me, I have never been happier or more comfortable in my own skin. A chance to embrace my flaws and not feel the need to cover them up. We are not the same people we were at the start of 2020; we have become more resilient, we are braver, more independent and most of all, oozing with confidence.
We will fully support these trends and for the first time in years, they are simple to get on board with, money-saving and most importantly, boost our self love.
